While often used to refer to any lower back pain, sciatica actually refers to pain along the sciatic nerve, which starts in the lower back and runs down the back of each leg.

Sciatic pain is a symptom, not the actual disorder.  Sciatic nerve pain can be caused by many factors, but is all comes down to pressure on or damage to the sciatic nerve.

For someone experiencing sciatica, the pain can be excruciating.  It can also be accompanied by numbness in some areas.  Typically, the pain radiates from the lower back, through the buttocks, and down the legs, but usually only one leg is affected at a time, or the pain is significantly worse in one leg than the other.

What causes sciatica?  Sitting in one position for extended periods of time, men sitting with their wallet in a rear pocket, injuries, or other problems with joints, muscles and bones in that area.

Massage therapy can relieve the pain and prevent further discomfort.  Proper massage techniques can reduce tension on the nerve, increase mobility, all while relieving the pain.  Stretching is also very important.

We offer a specialized Sciatica Treatment Massage, that is designed to specifically address these issues in and around the sciatic nerve, helping our clients to feel relief from pain and increase their mobility.
